Ahmad Chebbani, Chair
Ahmad Chebbani is a visionary leader who has taken pride in serving the community since he immigrated from his native Lebanon in 1979 to the United States. In 1983, he joined the Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services (ACCESS) as Fiscal Officer in charge of Government Budgeting, Accounting and Personnel and founded a free tax program for low-income families and seniors that continues to this day. In partnership with his wife, Michelle,
Mr. Chebbani established OMNEX Accounting & Tax Services, Dearborn, in 1987 and grew the firm’s client base to over 4,000. Seeing increasing challenges for minorities and small-to-mid sized entrepreneurs in achieving economic prosperity in the U.S., in 1992 Mr. Chebbani rallied the support of local community leaders to establish the American Arab Chamber of Commerce (AACC). Under his leadership, the diverse membership base grew to 1,200 and he is currently serving his fourth-term as Chairman of the board of directors.
Fay Beydoun, COO
Fay Beydoun is the Chief Operating Officer of the Tejara Global Business Development Center. She also serves as Executive Director of the American Arab Chamber of Commerce, the largest Arab-American business organization in the United States, delivering services and counsel to more than 1,500 companies, ranging from small businesses to multinational corporations and executive professionals. In her leadership position, Ms. Beydoun works to facilitate the growth of the Arab-American business community both locally and internationally.
Ms. Beydoun also serves as the Chief Operating Officer of the American Middle East Economic Affairs Committee, another organization that is working to further economic relations between the United States and the Arab World. Growing up in Dearborn, Ms. Beydoun is an immigrant and a daughter of an immigrant family that has worked tirelessly to achieve the American dream. She has mobilized and directed thousands of volunteers for various causes, social, political and economic, as part of her strong belief in giving back to her community. In 2012, Fay Beydoun was awarded the Michigan Woman’s Foundation “Top 25 Women Making a Difference” Award and in 2011 was named Corp! Magazine 2011 Diversity Leader.
Amal M. Berry
Amal M. Berry is Senior Director of Diversity & Inclusion at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. As part of the BCBSM Executive Team, Ms. Berry is responsible for the organizations diversity strategy, structure and overall delivery within BCBSM and Blue Care Network. Her thorough understanding of diversity and inclusion in the workplace drives continued growth at the Blues. Her prior position was at Comerica Bank as the National Diversity Education Manager and National Middle Eastern Business Affairs Manager.
Ms. Berry was named the Arab American of the Year in Finance in 2007 from the American Arab Chamber of Commerce and the Arab American Professionals Network. She received the prestigious honor of “40 Under 40” by Crain’s Detroit Business Magazine Class of 2008, which recognizes high potential leaders in the community who are under 40 years of age. Ms. Berry is also a recipient of the Diversity Business Leader Award by Corp! Magazine’s 2008 Salute to Diversity Leaders for her efforts and commitment to diversity and bettering our community.
Dr. Michael A. Boulus
Dr. Michael Boulus has served as the executive director of the Presidents Council, State Universities of Michigan since January of 2003. Prior to joining the Presidents Council, Mike served as deputy state treasurer for the Michigan Department of Treasury, overseeing the Bureau of Student Financial Assistance, the Michigan School Bond Loan Program, Local Government Services, Office of Revenue and Tax Analysis, the state educational assessment program for K-12 education and the Michigan Merit Award. He is the former executive director of the Middle Cities Education Association and former deputy executive director of the Michigan Association of School Administrators. Founder and first president of the Michigan Schools Energy Cooperative, Mike serves on the board of directors of Next Energy, a business incubator driving advanced energy technologies.
Dr. Boulus holds a doctoral degree from Michigan State University, a master’s degree from Eastern Michigan University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame. He is the recipient of several awards, including the National Leadership Award for Educational Leadership, the University of Notre Dame Exemplar Award, and the Michigan State University College of Education Distinguished Alumni Award.
Dr. Nadia Shuayto
Dr. Nadia Shuayto is an independent marketing and management consultant. She has worked with various companies in Lebanon, Jordan, Kuwait, Dubai, Sharjah, and Yemen. Her areas of research include global marketing (standardization vs. customization and building global brands), and management (expatriation and skill set needed from graduates). Dr. Shuayto served as Assistant Professor of Marketing and Chaired the MBA and BSBM programs at Lawrence Technological University, teaching courses in Marketing Management, International Business and Global Marketing.
Dr. Shuayto holds a Doctorate Degree in Marketing from Nova Southeastern University of Florida, a Master’s Degree in International Business from Lawrence Technological University, a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Management from Lawrence Tech, and an Associate’s Degree in Arts & Science from Henry Ford Community College. She has over 20 years of professional experience in the areas of retail, food & beverage, health care, and import/export. She holds the master franchise for the Little Caesars Pizza chain in Lebanon.
Fouad Ashkar is the Manager of Economic Development and Ethnic Marketing for DTE Energy. His responsibilities include developing and creating strategic relationships with ethnic business organizations, business leaders and customers in various ethnic communities. Mr. Ashkar has more than 35 years of progressive general management and international business experience and a consistent track record of successfully introducing sophisticated systems and programs into work environments, building positive customer relationships, establishing dynamic sales and marketing strategies, introducing new products, improving productivity and creating growth.
During his career, Mr. Ashkar worked extensively in the Middle East. He was born in Lebanon and arrived in Michigan in 1971 to attend college at Western Michigan University where he earned an undergraduate degree in Industrial/Mechanical Engineering. Later he earned an MBA from Davenport University in Detroit.
Mr. Ashkar is very active in several community-based and business organizations and such as the American Arab Chamber of Commerce, Dearborn Chamber of Commerce, Lebanese American Heritage Club and Leadership Detroit.
